Happy 2015 my friends!!!
I’m super excited to see what the year brings us. It didn’t start out that way. During the last few days, my heart began to fill with dread and sadness. It’s because I think too much. Seriously.
I think about my baby growing up, us getting old, chances to spend time with loved ones missed, time wasted, etc. Then, I suck it up and remind myself that this is life. This is the way that it is and the way that it will always be. Time waits for noone. Forever doesn’t exist in this world.
We are given a certain amount of days on this earth and it is up to us to use them to the fullest.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12 (KJV)
It’s so easy to take life for granted. So very easy, but one of my goals for the new year and for the rest of my days is to be more INTENTIONAL with my time. Another goal is to share more LOVE. Seems silly to say that, but a simple smile to a passerby or a random act of kindness can change a persons day.
With all of the evil and sadness that happens in this world…I want to do my best to add a little happy and to raise my son to do the same. That boy already makes this place one million times better.
So that’s my little bit of new year inspiration! Now, let’s talk pompoms!!!
Pompoms are nothing new to the craft world, but I thought I’d give it a shot.
I’m officially in love. Funny story: I was sitting on the couch making pompoms and my husband looks over and says, “I want to try.” So he and I had a pompom making party! I was impressed by his pompom making skills and he was so excited about doing such a good job.
I decided to make a fun garland to use on our winter mantel for the next couple of months.
Do you like it? I think its fun and quirky!
I know my style (whatever style that may be…let me know when you figure it out!) isn’t for everyone. I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE all kinds of different decorating styles and it’s been difficult for me to figure out what I like for me and my family. I definitely mix in a little of everything.
It is always pretty casual. You will find some rustic tendencies. I mean…we do live on a mountain after all.
I also find myself drawn to fun and whimsical decor.
I love a handmade home.
Of course, my decorating style falls in the budget friendly category. I love to shop…but I’m a cheapo. Just ask the hubs.
Okay…let’s talk more about the pompoms. They were so easy to make. Remember that my honey helped…that’s how easy! There are many tutorials that you can find online about how to make them. I actually ran across this nifty little gadget at Hobby Lobby…
It’s called a “Pompom Maker”. Fancy that. It has 4 different sizes and clear instructions. My only tip is this: If you want a full pompom like the one on the left of the pic below…then you need to wrap tightly. If you want a less full pompom…like on the right…then you will need to wrap loosely. I kinda mixed it up and used both in my garland.
Okay…so here’s the deal. I maybe…sorta…kinda…went a little pompom crazy and made too much. I had enough white pompoms left over to make another garland. So, I decided that I wanted to do a fun little giveaway! I’m doing this because it’s the new year and I’m feeling all sentimental and because I just love you for even reading this!
The garland is one strand of approximately 12 9cm white pompoms.
If pompom garland is your cup of tea and you just don’t have time to make one yourself, then leave a comment below and I will pick a random winner on Monday January 4th, 2015!
**Update: This giveaway is now closed.
Oh…and y’all know I couldn’t pack away the twinkle lights…

love it when the hubby joins in on the crafting fun. Thanks for sharing your source for the pompon maker. If I don t win I can still make my own.
I was so surprised when he asked me to help!! Just FYI the pompom maker was $9.99, but if you have a smart phone you can use the Hobby Lobby app. They always have a %40 off coupon for one regular priced item which would bring it down to $6!! Have a great day!
Your garland is really cute and I love the bits of silver in the white garland.
Thanks for the chance and Happy New Year
I’m glad you like it! Thank you and happy new year to you too Mary!
i love that idea. Very cute and could imagine several places to hang one if I had it. If I don’t win yours then I’ll make my own. It’ll make a fun project for the winter. Wouldn’t the pompon be a great addition to a plain scarf you might find with a simple chain crochet stitch? Hmmmm. Maybe I need to go scarf hunting.
Yessss Charla! You could put it above a mirror, on a door frame, on your head board…so many possibilities. I also think it would look super cute in a nursery!!!!
Your idea to add them to a scarf is great and it would be so easy!
You could also add them to the corners of pillows or throws!
Don’t even get me started! Haha!
Have a great day!
I love your mantle arrangement for winter!
Thank you so much Jeanine! Hope you are having a great day!
Really cute, would love to win it!
So glad you like it! Good luck!!
Have a super day!
Lisa! My hubby just drew your name out of the hat! You win the garland! Woohoo! Can you contact me (tab at the top of this page). I will need your full name and address you would like the garland to be mailed to. Have a great night!
Such a cute garland! I love that they make a pom pom maker too! Who knew? Well, you did, I guess. I think it makes a perfect addition as “winter decor.” Hmmm…if I don’t win, maybe I should try my hand at making them. Sounds like a fun project! Happy New Year, Luisa!

Hi Lisa! I had no idea that it existed! I was just browsing around and noticed it. Guess it was meant to be!!! They were so easy to make…I just made them while watching some tv after the baby went to bed.
Happy New Year to you too!
How lovely and perfect for winter! Even nicer that your guy help out. My husband helped me with a beading project once and actually did better than I did!

Thank you! So, I do have to admit that his did look better than mine. Haha! Too funny!
I love this garland! Such a great idea. In my home, we keep our Christmas Tree up all year and just decorate it for the different holidays and seasons. I may just have to make a Pom Pom garland for Valentine’s Day!

Well thank you so much for hosting Sherry and I am so very glad that you like it!
I love pom poms so this is just my style! I think your garland is just lovely. I had a similar thing last year when I learnt the “over the hand” pom pom making method and taught my daughter. I went to work the next day and when I came home she was sitting on the floor surrounded by mountains of pom poms! They really are very addictive!
