Woodland Nursery: The Plan

13 November, 2013

I’m not going to lie.  When I found out that we were expecting a wee one I had so many cute ideas for the nursery…a girl’s nursery.  I didn’t even realize it until I found out the munchkin growing inside of my belly is a boy.  I found that I was completely lost anytime I thought about the nursery.  Gone were ideas of frilly canopies, adorable chandys, gold and lace accents…

I spent hours scouring online for inspiration pictures.  I decided to look to my husband for ideas.  What does he like?  The answer is anything with an outdoorsy, woodsy, cabin-like feel.  I’ve created a mood board to kind of show you my ideas and some of my favorite picks so far:

What are your thoughts?  I know it isn’t very babyish, but I really wanted to use decor that can grow with him.  We are going to turn our current guest room into the nursery.  It is already painted a color that I can work with and I even think that the current curtains will work as well.  The following pic gives you an idea of the paint color and curtains…

Of course, I have some DIY ideas for some artwork and the mobile.  Trying to keep the labor to a minimum…which is why I’m not repainting.  Shoot…I can hardly tie my shoes without running out of breath.  I would love to build some sort of paneled accent wall (see examples below) for a more rustic feel, but I think the tree decals will work just fine…ha!

Feel free to visit my For the Munchkin Pinterest board for more fun ideas.  To say that I am a bit obsessed with this project is an understatement.  I already feel like I am running behind!  Oh well…it will all come together when it comes together!  Right?

Feel free to share any ideas that you may have…I am totally open.  I still need a light fixture!  Also, I am trying to start on our registry so if anyone has “baby stuff” recommendations I will openly accept them!   It is so overwhelming every time I walk into Babies R Us!  I just want to go crawl into one of the cribs and hide.  (I’m so dramatic.)  What is your favorite baby stroller, car seat, organic products, disposable diapers, breast pumps, etc…?

I am off to the docs office today to complete my glucose and iron test…wish me luck!!

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you all are having a super week (and staying warm) :-)

I was thinking that instead of doing a complete paneled accent wall like the pictures you like, you could make a rustic wood ‘headboard’ of sorts to put over the baby’s crib.
    A cross between this headboard:

and the wood nameplate over this baby’s crib:

(scroll down, and you see the baby’s name is crew and his nameplate was actually used at their baby shower & name reveal)

It might fit in well with your theme & is a smaller version of the wood accent wall!

    xo,
    Lauren

Wow!! Thanks so much Lauren. Those are great ideas! I will definitely keep this idea in mind. Maybe I will get the energy to tackle a project like this. I do have a hubby…but trust me…just trust me…hahaha! Thanks again for sharing :-)))))

Search etsy for rustic light fixtures. They have some pretty cool mason jar fixtures, electric lanterns and other outdoorsy/looks like we’re camping light fixtures. Some of them are too expensive but there are some great choices for under $100!

Oh girlllll!!! I have been all over Etsy…looking for all kinds of cute stuff! :-)

I love the direction you’re going and it can grow with him. One of my most prized possessions as new mom was my Mobi wrap. I bought it at a Target for around $40 I think. It’s all cotton knit and you can securely carry your baby close to you from day one comfortably! You can wrap it several different ways. As for the nursery, I know whatever you decide will be just perfect :)

Thanks Christy! I will definitely be investing in a good wrap!! I can see myself wearing our munchkin everywhere!

Great idea to incorporate things you all love in the baby’s room. I love the idea of the room growing with the baby, a few simple changes of wall art and other accessories as he gets bigger and this design will last for years. Those whimsical art pieces are adorable! We too kept the wall color from our guest room when Victoria came along, a pale green. of course now it’s quite pink, LOL! Trey’s room was UNC blue before he settled in, so no changes needed there either. Can’t wait to see how the space turns out, love all your decorating ideas throughout your house.

That’s exactly what I had in mind Nicole! Holla!! I’m all about whatever will make life easier. Thank you for recognizing my efforts :-)

First, Nicole, you can never ever go wrong with Carolina Blue! Luisa, I love the idea of using items that will transition into a big boy room. Very smart. What I love the most is that you are so into your little boy’s room. Touches my heart when I see or hear about an expectant mom who is already wanting to make things great for their little one. Lucky little boy!

Oh my gosh…your sweet comment just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much. We are just so excited and I can only pray that I can make things great for him. :-)

I love the woodland theme – it would seem like a good choice to be able to transition from baby to boy. Good luck with the design plan.

Oo, I love this idea! I’m not a big fan of the super childish looking nurseries. I think something a little more serene (like an outdoorsy theme!) is more relaxing for both mom and baby! Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Jesse! Hope it turns out as planned! My online orders are slowly coming in and the furniture will be ready this weekend. Butttt…before we can get started on the fun part, we have to move the existing furniture into a bedroom in the basement…down stairs…16 stairs.
      Booooooo!!

Hello, I love your inspiration board and it has actually helped me inspire my nursery! I was wondering where this dresser was from? I didnt see it on your pinterest site. Thanks!

    • Reply Luisa 3 January, 2015 at 4:52 pm

Hi Kiley! I’m so glad you like it! I actually purchased that dresser from Babies R Us. I was looking on their site so that I could share the link with you, but it looks as though they no longer carry it. :-( I have heard that their furniture was cheaply made, but I have to say that we are very pleased with ours. They have a couple that are a little similar. Also, if you decide to purchase from there, make sure you watch out for sales. They often run specials on their furniture. So sorry that I can’t help you more. Best wishes and congratulations to your growing family! :-)
