Gardening Spring

Flowers, Flowers, Everywhere

Ferns

Oh man…I just can not stop buying flowers…well…except now.  Sorta kinda ran out of money. 😛  I guess that’ll do it…

I only have one container left, but I think I’ll wait until the nurseries restock with different flowers…and until I get more mulah…

This post is for my gardening friends.  I am going to share my containers as well as what I put in each one.  Then, at the end of the season I’m going to do another after post just to see how much they grow.  This should be interesting.  Every year I plant a few containers and by July they all die from either thirst or buggies.  So, we shall see!  Next year, I plan to save money by growing from seed.

Bring on the flowers!

Click picture for source.

Just kidding, but aren’t those beautiful?  Okay, for real this time…

My shade container:

1. Alocosia calidora  (Elephant Ears) Leaves can grow 6 feet long in the tropics!

2.  Caladium Lil Star Popular for fairy gardens.

3.  Cinca minor ‘Illumination’ An evergreen ground cover that has little periwinkle-blue flowers in the spring.

Part shade container:

1.  Asparagus densiflorus (Foxtail Fern)  The hubs picked this one out.  He loved the uniqueness. I love him!

2.  Torenia ‘Kauai deep blue’  So pretty!

Full sun container:

1.  Petunia ‘Hurrah white’ Did you know that if you dead head a petunia at the stem then it will produce a much fuller plant?

2. Gerbera Daisy I’ve killed many of these…pray for her!!

Full sun container:

1.  Lobularia hybrid ‘Snow Princess A variety of alyssum that tolerates heat.

I have never been a big fern fan and yet I have bought 3 different types this year…

Ferns

Full sun container:

1.  Dusty Miller  Drought tolerant…woohoo!

2. Vinca ‘Cora’ Another drought tolerant plant that gives beautiful blooms in the summertime!

3.  Purslane Did not realize that this was a succulent…hope it does okay in the regular potting soil.

Full sun container:

1.  White Petunia-Just one I had left over.

Full sun:

1.  Calibrachoa Looks like a mini petunia.

Part sun container:

1.  Creeping Jenny

2.  Lobelia

3.  Coleus

4.  Double Impatiens  I’m thinking that this container is my favorite.

There is one more container that is not quiet picture ready.  It was the first container I planted this year and something apparently loves the way petunia’s taste.  Trying to revive it now…maybe it will come back.

So that’s it…21 different species and 38 plants later…whew!   Hopefully this post will serve as motivation to keep these babies alive!

Have you guys been bitten by the flower bug yet?
