Home Improvement Wish List

Endless Process

*sighs*
Home sweet home.  I feel so very blessed to have a place to call home.  It truly is my refuge and my place of comfort.  The one place I can lay back and relax…or is it?
Right now, as I am typing this, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed about all that needs to be completed in this so-called “retreat”.
Before I go any further, I want to make a public apology to you all for any grammatical errors that I may make.  I realize that my blogs consist of run-on sentences, misplacement of commas, and too many periods.  This may frustrate some of you and for that I am sorry…truly.  That is all. :-)
Alright, back to the endless process of home improvement.  I love improving things, but I will admit that I have had thoughts of regret about having bought an older home.  I haven’t even finished decorating some of our rooms and I am already getting tired of the ones that have been decorated.  Does this happen to anyone else?  It’s kinda like my tastes have changed.  I think my main problem is that I like soooo many different styles and it is hard for me to decide on one particular design or be happy with something before I want to change it again.  It’s like I have decorating ADD.
Take my powder room for instance.  It was the first room we…I…decorated. Mostly because it was the smallest, easiest, and cheapest room.  This was the room when we moved in.

The following pics are after.

The paint color is “Silver Strand” by Sherwin Williams.  I heart it very much.  In fact, our guest room was also lucky enough to be painted this color.  I still want to replace the light fixture and faucet.  Not a big fan of the brass. The whole entire house was in brass heaven.  We’ve already replaced a lot, but still have a lot to go.  It’ll be my luck that by the time we have it all replaced it will be back in style! 😛

I’m not really sure why I fell in love with the “flour de lis” design.  I just remember I wanted a room in black and white and then I found all of these goodies at Hobby Lobby.
This also happens to be one of the rooms I am ready to change.
Now to my dining room.

I’ve alway loved the mediterranean-like colors and I still do, but I have found myself being slowly drawn in to the lighter shades decor.  This room will not be changing any time soon.  We have invested too much time and money.  We replaced the chandelier, built wainscoting, painted, hung curtains, and of course bought furniture.
The paint in our kitchen is also a bit bold.  Goes along well with the dining room color.

I am still pretty happy with it…mostly because our entire kitchen was white.  Speaking of kitchen.  Lots of work to be done here.

All of the appliances need to be replaced.  Note the broken handle of microwave and it’s close proximity to the stove.  The fridge leaks for some reason and I have to constantly empty out a strategically placed bowl.  The ice maker doesn’t work either.  Our sink leaks.  Only two eyes on the stove work.   Backsplash would be okay if it were not for the randomly placed flower tiles.  White laminate counter tops are boring and stain easily.  Cabinets are fine. Why did we purchase this house again?  Haha…just kidding…*sighs*.
Then, there is still this big mess to deal with.

Still, haven’t gotten around to “summer-izing” the screened porch.  Months overdue…

I stare at my fireplace on a daily base wondering what it would look like minus the brass and with painted brick.

Our baseboards in the living area have looked liked this (see below) since we moved in.  Oh, and let’s not forget about the unpainted door to our master bath.  Where’s the door knob?

I almost don’t even want to get started on the master bath.  We don’t even use the shower because it is so small and water pools in one corner.
Where’s Candace-freakin-Olsen when you need her?

I <3 her.
Are YOU feeling overwhelmed yet??  Thought I would feel better after getting it all out…not so much.
So that it doesn’t sound like I’m totally unhappy and drowning under water with my home, let me share with you our guest room.

I am very happy with the guest room.  It’s very comfy.  So comfy that I want to sleep in it sometimes.

I still want to install some sort of molding.  I also want to repaint this (free) tv stand and put a tv in here.

Whew…I’m exhausted after writing all this. I know I just need to take it one day at a time.
Are any of you guys in the same boat as me?
