Sunroom Love

25 June, 2012

Happy Sunday!  Hope you all had a great weekend!  Mine was fulfilled with a bunch of…nothing.  Okay.  Maybe that isn’t exactly true.  I did hang out with some pretty awesome people and tried out some new wine…which is always exciting.
Now, to the topic of interest. The sunroom.  The sunroom in our home stole my heart the first time that I laid my eyes on it.  There really wasn’t anything “special” about it per say.  It was more about the idea of having a house with a sunroom.  I saw it and I day dreamed of lying on a comfy chaise, reading a wonderful novel (50 shades)(wink wink) or napping surrounded by beautiful houseplants in the warmth of the sunlight.  Well, it has been two years and those dreams have yet to come true.  So…at the beginning of this year, I made it my goal to redo my sunroom.  Yep.  You heard right.  I have been working on my sunroom since Jaaaannnnuuuuaaarrrryyyyyyyy.   Gaaaahhhh!!!  Definitely thought it would be finished by now.  Oh well.
Let me introduce you to the sunroom.

There are windows all around…hence “sunroom”.  Nice view of the lake.  The wicker came with it.  Hooray.  No…really.  Free is good.  And wicker is darn expensive.  This is the way the room has looked for the last two years.  ZZzzzz……
I know.  Boring right?  Now you know why I decided to spruce it up a little.  Okay. Maybe a lot.  Pretty sure I may have bitten off a little more than I can chew on this project which is also probably why it is taking sooooo long to finish.
So, here is what my sunroom looks like now.  Tada!!
Haha, just kidding.  I crack myself up sometimes.  Seriously though, I LOVE the ceiling in the above picture.  Also love the neutral colors.
Again, love the ceiling, and the neutral colors. Really diggin’ the floor too.  My idea behind decorating with neutral colors is that I can easily add pops of color with small touches like pillows and fresh cut flowers.  These items can be easily switched along with my taste.
Alright, back to my room.  I decided to start from the top and that meant figuring out something interesting to do with my ceiling.  The following ceiling tickled my fancy and so I decided to go for it.  It’s called a “coffered” ceiling.  (New term for me)
Here is my old plain jane ceiling.

And here is my new and exciting coffered ceiling!!

I am proud to say that I did this all by my lonesome.

First, I measured and marked my chalk lines.

Then, I screwed in my studs.  Okay, okay. The hubby did help out here.  Then, I learned how to use this guy (below) after failing miserably with a hand held saw and miter box.

After tons of googling I learned how to use a miter saw, an air compressor, a nail gun, how to construct a beam, and how to hang crown molding.  It truly is AMAZING what you can learn on YouTube.
My next step is to replace all of my trim. I’m a big fan of molding and I feel that bigger is better (In this case).  This seems to be a tad bit simpler than the ceiling so far.
Are you guys fans of molding?  Could you care less?  Do you even know what molding is?  😉
Later gators!!

This is a comment to the admin. Your website is missing out on at least 300 visitors per day. I have found a company which offers to dramatically increase your visitors to your website: http://2hams.com/2312o They offer 1,000 free visitors during their free trial period and I managed to get over 30,000 visitors per month using their services, you could also get lot more targeted traffic than you have now. Hope this helps :) Take care.
